Paris Throws Open Its Garden Gates for Midnight Strolls This Summer

Summer Parks in Paris

When Parisians start melting faster than gelato on the Champs-Élysées, the city knows exactly what to do: throw open the park gates and let people breathe.

This summer, from July 5 to September 7, 2025, fourteen additional parks and gardens will extend their hours until midnight, joining the 140 green spaces that remain open 24/7 throughout the year.

Your New Late-Night Hangouts

The midnight squad includes some of our favorite Paris parks: Parc des Buttes-Chaumont in the 19th, Parc Montsouris in the 14th, and Square Louise Michel right in front of Sacré Coeur. Picture this: midnight picnics with the Basilica glowing white in the background. Instagram gold, right there.

Here’s your complete guide to Paris’s late-night green spaces:

Extended Hours Until Midnight (July 5 – September 7):

  • Square Louis XIII at Place des Vosges (4th) – closes 11:15pm
  • Esplanade Gaston Monnerville near Luxembourg Gardens (6th)
  • Square Boucicaut in front of Le Bon Marché (7th)
  • Jardin Villemin – Mahsa Jîna Amini (10th)
  • Square Emile Cohl (12th)
  • Square Georges Méliès (12th)
  • Jardin de Reuilly – Paul Pernin (12th)
  • Jardin Federica Montseny (13th)
  • Parc Montsouris (14th)
  • Square Ferdinand Bruno (14th)
  • Square du Tchad (16th)
  • Square Louise Michel (18th)
  • Parc des Buttes-Chaumont (19th)
  • Square Toussaint Louverture (20th)

Extra Heatwave Heroes (when temperatures really spike): Six additional parks join the midnight crew during official heatwaves, creating what locals call “islands of coolness” scattered across the city. Think of them as nature’s air conditioning units – but free, and with better views.

More Than Just Beating the Heat

This isn’t just about surviving another scorching Parisian summer. Some nocturnal picnickers say they love staying later, creating a more festive ambiance as darkness falls. We’re talking about actual nightlife that doesn’t involve overpriced cocktails or squeezing into crowded bars.

The city has also installed 48 water misters and 35 two-in-one fountains throughout the parks, as well as those fancy sparkling water fountains that make you feel like you’re living in a futuristic green paradise.

The Practical Stuff

Security? The city has increased police presence with special K9 units making rounds. Because apparently even the dogs need to work night shifts during a heatwave.

Cost? About half a million dollars in extra security, lighting, and trash pickup. However, when you consider that this provides over 500 acres of nighttime playground to Parisians and tourists alike, it’s practically a bargain.

The best part? One regular park-goer mentioned they used to scale the tall iron gates to get in after hours, but now says “it’s much nicer being here legally”. Finally, a chance to enjoy those midnight park vibes without feeling like you’re about to get chased by security guards.

So grab a blanket, pack some wine (this is France, after all), and discover what Paris looks like when the sun goes down but the city stays green. Your air conditioning bill will thank you.
